Cold Soup

A journey through an icy wilderness.

Cold Soup is about the trials a wizard dog faces as they traverse a frozen environment. It's not clear where they're headed at first, but they're going to have to be careful if they want to make it. This comic was inspired primarily by a desire to use its color palette, setting warm yellows and reds against icey light blues and teals. The comic is mostly wordless and focuses mainly on overcoming obstacles.

Cold Soup

I started Cold Soup after a series of freezes and snows in the Denton area where I was attending school at the time, I wanted to have an icy color palette as opposed to my usual plant heavy comics.

Ice fields

Cold Soup is primarily an adventure comic written the way many of my comics are by having the character explore their environment and deal with the different challenges they come across. I'm particularly happy with how Cold Soup turned out, rereading it I was surprised by the wide variety of obstacles that show up. I mostly avoided any real plot thinking of the Nabokov quote “Style and Structure are the essence of a book; great ideas are hogwash.” The color palette is relatively simple but was great fun to play with the various blues and balance how they change throughout the panels instead of using a consistent color for each instance.
